Three million tuition periods in distance education

Independent distance teaching institutions reported 3 057 000 tuition periods in 2006, a decrease of 3 per cent from the previous year. The number of completed courses increased by 2 per cent from 2005.

During the last few years, the number of state subsidised courses by independent distance teaching institutions has been considerably reduced. In 2006, independent distance teaching institutions only reported half as many tuition periods as in 2000. In the same period there has also been a 46 per cent reduction in completed courses.

NKI Distance Education accounted for 61 per cent of completed courses and 54 per cent of reported tuition periods by independent distance teaching institutions in 2006. In total, NKI Distance Education had 12 700 completed course and 1 663 000 tuition periods.
