More lynx and wolverine shot

Registered mortality of large carnivores. 1994/95- 2008/09*

Quota hunting on lynx takes place in February and March. In 2009, hunting licences for 119 lynx were issued and 98 were shot. With 27 animals, most lynx were shot in the county of Nord-Trøndelag.

50 wolverines shot as nuisance

In total, 90 wolverines were shot or died of other causes; 13 more than in the previous hunting year. Fifty of them were shot as nuisance. The majority of the wolverines shot as nuisance were shot in the northern part of Norway. In total, 89 permissions to shoot wolverines under licence were issued, and 35 animals were shot. In the 2007/08 hunting year, 94 permissions were issued and 24 wolverines were shot.

12 bears shot

A total of 12 bears were shot compared with 13 in the previous hunting year. Nine were felled as nuisance and one was felled illegally. In addition, two were shot under licence.

A total of five wolves were shot or died of other causes. One was shot as nuisance, one was killed by a train and two died of other causes.

Birds of prey

In the previous hunting year, 8 golden eagles, 32 white-tailed eagles and 21 goshawks were reported dead. In general, all reductions should be reported, but for various reasons this is not always done. The data for birds of prey in particular should be regarded as minimum figures.
