Increase in wolverines killed
A total of 79 wolverines were reported shot or died of other causes in the 2006/07 hunting year. 41 were shot as noxious, more than twice as many as in the previous year.
The majority of the wolverines shot as noxious were shot in the northern part of Norway. With eleven animals, Troms county had the largest number of felled wolverines. In total, 91 permissions to shoot wolverines under licence were issued, and 34 animals were shot. In the 2005/06 hunting year, 68 permissions were issued and 36 wolverines were shot. Troms had the highest number of wolverines felled under licence with ten in total.
More lynx felled
Quota hunting on lynx takes place in February and March. In 2007, hunting licences for 74 lynx were issued and 56 were shot. 23 were felled in Nord-Trøndelag county. The number of licences issued increased by 26 from the year before, and the number of lynx shot rose by 16.
Reduced mortality of wolf and bear
Four bears were registered shot or died of other causes, compared with six in the previous hunting year. Two bears were felled in self-defence, one was felled as noxious and one died of other causes. Two wolves were shot, one as noxious and one felled under licence.
Birds of prey
In the 2006/07 hunting year 14 golden eagles, 44 white-tailed eagles and 15 goshawks were reported dead. In general, all reductions should be reported, but for various reasons this is not always done. The data for birds of prey in particular should be regarded as minimum figures.
