13 wolves felled last hunting year

13 wolves were felled as vermin in the hunting year 2000/01. In addition four other wolves were reported died. A higher decrease of wolves has not been reported since 1923.

Last winter permission was given to kill 10 wolves in Østerdalen, and 9 were felled. In addition, four other wolves were felled as vermin, while car or train killed two, and two reductions were caused by "other reasons".

40 wolverines

The number of wolverines that are reported killed or died of other causes is increasing. In the 2000/01 hunting year, a total of 40 wolverines were killed, an increase of nine animals from the previous hunting year. During the license hunting, 27 wolverines, or 87 per cent of the quota, were felled. 24 of animals were felled in the three northernmost counties.

80 lynx

In the 2000/01 hunting year, 123 lynx licences were issued, and altogether 80 lynx were shot. Most lynx were felled in Nordland, where 15 animals were killed.

Six bears

Six bears were reported killed or died of other causes. Three bears were felled as vermin, two in self-defence and one died by "other reasons".
