Increase in new enterprises

A total of 14 429 new enterprises were registered in the fourth quarter of 2016. This is an increase of 1.2 per cent compared with the same period in 2015. Most of the new enterprises were registered in Oslo and Akershus.

Sole proprietorships accounted for 55 per cent of all new enterprises in the 4th quarter of 2016 and private limited liability companies accounted for 42 per cent. Compared with the 4th quarter of 2015, the number of new registered private limited liability companies decreased by 3 per cent, while the number of new sole proprietorships increased by 8 per cent. 

Most new enterprises were registered within scientific and technical activities, construction and retail trade. 

Overall, 3 201 new enterprises were registered in Oslo and 1 679 in Akershus. Compared with the 4th quarter of the previous year, the number of new enterprises increased by 3 per cent in Oslo and 2 per cent in Akershus. Troms experienced the largest increase, as nearly 17 per cent more enterprises were established in the 4th quarter of 2016 compared with the 4th quarter of 2015. In Sør-Trøndelag, the increase was just over 16 per cent. 

The figures include all new enterprises except enterprises within agriculture, forestry, fishing and public administration.
