2.8 million tuition periods

Independent distance teaching institutions reported a total of 2 800 000 tuition periods, and 18 400 course completions in 2009.

Compared to the previous year, the total number of tuition periods decreased by 5 per cent in 2009. Since 2000, the number of course completions also fell by 9 per cent. The number of tuition periods and course completions decrease by 55 and 52 per cent respectively.

On average, each course participant had 150 tuition periods in 2009. The highest average number of tuition periods was found on courses arranged by Industriskolen, with 313 tuition periods, while the lowest average was at Norwegian Net School with 35.

NKI Distance Education with most course completions

Three institutions accounted for 89 per cent of all completed courses and 82 per cent of all tuition periods in 2009; NKI Distance Education, NKS Online learning and The Aviation School of Norway. NKI Distance Education topped the number of course completions (11 800) and tuition periods (1.4 mill). Compared with the previous year, NKI Distance Education had 9 per cent fewer course completions and 8 per cent less tuition periods during 2009.
