Roundwood removals increased by 35 per cent in the 3rd quarter of 2010 compared to the same quarter of 2009. At the same time, the average timber price rose by 21 per cent.

The logging activity is approaching the same level as before the international financial crisis. A total of 1.8 million cubic metres of timber were cut for sale in the 3rd quarter of 2010. Roundwood removals increased in most counties.

Increase in value

The aggregated gross value of roundwood sold to the manufacturing industry was NOK 650 million in the 3rd quarter of 2010; an increase of 25 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter in 2009. According to preliminary calculations, the forest owners obtained an average of NOK 356 per cubic metre; an increase of NOK 62 compared to the 3rd quarter of 2009. The average price per cubic metre of saw logs increased by NOK 76 and pulpwood increased by NOK 29.
