Men run limited companies

The proportion of male members of the boards of private limited companies has not changed in the last years. Men still constitute 83 per cent of the boards. The female share in the boards of public limited companies is 40 per cent.

The female share of board members in public limited companies is thus the statutory minimum required for gender balance in company boards.

In private limited companies, 17 per cent of the board members are women. Female board membership is highest in other service activities with 46 per cent, followed by education with 37 per cent.

Men comprise nine out of ten board members in construction. Private limited companies with only men in their boards make up 72 per cent of the companies. The highest share is in construction, where 84 per cent of the companies have only male board members.

Women in public limited companies have higher education

In public limited companies, 72 of the women in the boards are educated at universities or university colleges. The corresponding figure for men is 63 per cent. In private limited companies, the share of women with a degree from a university or university college is 46 per cent, 25 per cent points lower than in public limited companies.
