Strong growth in capital to Norwegian foundations

Total capital to non-financial foundations was NOK 143 billion in 2013. This is an increase of more than NOK 37 billion or almost 35 per cent compared to the previous year.

Total capital to the foundations went up from just under NOK 106 billion in 2012 to just over NOK 143 billion in 2013. About 78 per cent of the total capital invested was financed by equity in 2013 compared to 71 per cent in 2012.

Around one in three or 2 662 foundations were non-profit in the fiscal year 2013. Total capital to the non-profit foundations was slightly more than NOK 36 billion in 2013, where almost 57 per cent was financed by equity. Total capital in 2012 was slightly less than NOK 36 billion and the share of capital financed by owners was 54 per cent.

A new institutional sector classification was introduced as from fiscal year 2013, with the result that the figures are not entirely comparable with the ones for the previous years.
