NOK 331 billion paid in dividends

Norwegian limited companies paid over NOK 331 billion in dividends in 2014. This is an increase of roughly 9 per cent compared with the previous year.

Limited companies in the mining and quarrying industry made the highest dividend payments, amounting to NOK 83 billion. However, this is over NOK 15 billion less than in 2013. Companies in the manufacturing industry also handed out significant dividends, totalling NOK 47 billion. Financial and insurance activities followed with NOK 31 billion, while companies in wholesale and retail trade and companies in real estate activities both paid NOK 29 billion.

Norwegian corporations took half

The largest part of the dividend payments went to Norwegian corporations, which received NOK 161 billion, or roughly half of the total proceeds. Foreign shareholders followed with NOK 84 billion, the general government got NOK 46 billion and households received NOK 39 billion.

Of the dividends paid to households, men received NOK 31 billion; an increase of NOK 2 billion or 7 per cent compared with 2013. Women received NOK 7 billion, which is an increase of NOK 600 million or 10 per cent.
