Increase in transport performances

Norwegian lorries performed almost 5.0 billion tonne-kilometres in Norway and on trips abroad in the 1st quarter of 2013. This was an increase of 4.5 per cent compared with the 1st quarter of 2012.

The transport performance of Norwegian-registered vehicles in national transport increased by 6.2 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter in 2012, while the transport performance in international transport fell by 4.5 per cent. The average length of carriage of goods transported domestically slightly increased and amounted to 73.2 kilometres in the 1st quarter this year.

More domestic transport

In the 1st quarter of 2013, Norwegian lorries carried 57.8 million tonnes of goods domestically. This is 5.1 per cent more than in the 1st quarter of 2012. However, the tonnage carried, related to exports and imports, decreased by 1.4 per cent compared with the corresponding quarter in the previous year.

Domestic transport dominates completely

Of the total tonnage carried by Norwegian lorries in the 1st quarter this year, 98 per cent was transported domestically. Measured in tonne-kilometres the corresponding share was 85 per cent.

Less transport on own account

The share of transport performance carried out on own account, declined from 25 per cent in the 1st quarter of 2012 to 20 per cent in the 1st quarter of 2013.

Less empty driving

The share of empty driving domestically went down from 25.1 to 23.8 per cent from the 1st quarter of 2012 to the corresponding quarter in 2013. For Norwegian lorries in international transport, the share went down from 19.1 to 12.1 per cent in the same period.
