Increase in service costs

The total cost index for road goods transport increased by 0.3 per cent from May to June 2009. Over the last twelve months, the total costs have decreased by 0.5 per cent.

The sub-index for repair and service costs increased by 2.7 per cent from May to June. In the last 12 months this index has increased by 12.6 per cent.

The fuel index increased by 1.9 per cent during the last month. From June 2008 to June 2009, this sub-index has decreased by 19.0 per cent.

From May to June 2009, the index for capital costs decreased by 1.7 per cent, mainly due to a decrease in real interest rates. Over the last twelve months, this index, which is composed of depreciation and amortisation, interest costs and annual fees, has decreased by 9.4 per cent.

The tyre index decreased by 1.0 per cent last month. Over the last twelve months, this sub-index has grown by 8.5 per cent.

About the fuel index

The fuel index is based on actual pump prices obtained from a selection of retailers located around Norway. Surveys show that the development in pump prices is very similar to the development in the contract prices for fuel supplied by the major distributors, although some discrepancies may occur in certain months.
