Increase in transport costs

The total cost index for road goods transport increased by 0.4 per cent from April to May 2009. Over the last twelve months, the total costs have decreased by 0.1 per cent.

The sub index for repair and service costs increased by 1.8 per cent from April to May. In the last 12 months this index has increased by 9.7 per cent.

The fuel index increased by 1.4 per cent during the last month. From May 2008 to May 2009, this sub-index decreased by 17.7 per cent.

The sub-index for ferry and road toll costs increased by 0.3 per during the last month. Over the last twelve months the sub-index for ferry and road toll costs has increased by 60.0 per cent.

From April to May 2009, the index for capital costs decreased by 0.2 per cent, mainly due to a decrease in real interest rates. Over the last twelve months, this index, which is composed of depreciation and amortisation, interest costs and annual fees, has decreased by 7.8 per cent.
