Decrease in transport costs

The total cost index for road goods transport decreased by 0.4 per cent from August to September 2008. Over the last 12 months the total costs have increased by 8.7 per cent.

The sub-index for capital decreased by 1.3 per cent last month, mainly due to a reduction in real interests rates. Over the last 12 months this index, which is composed by depreciation and amortization, interest costs and annual fees, has increased by 4.2 per cent.

Cost index for road goods transport, by vehicle group. September 2007- September 2008

The fuel index decreased by 1.0 per cent during the last month. From September 2007 to September 2008 this sub-index has increased by 22.9 per cent.

The sub-index for repair and service costs increased by 0.2 per cent from August to September. In the last 12 months this index has increased by 6.2 per cent.

The tyre index increased by 0.1 per cent the last month. Over the last 12 months this sub-index has grown by 4.2 per cent.
