Large increase in road toll costs
Increased road toll costs, higher diesel prices and rising administration costs made lorry operations more expensive last month. A decline in capital costs partly offset the cost increase.
The total cost index for road goods transport increased by 1.8 per cent from June to July 2008, mainly due to the introduction of a new tariff system for road tolls in Oslo and a considerable rise in diesel prices. Over the last 12 months the total costs for road goods transport have increased by 11.5 per cent.
Jump in ferry and road toll costs
The sub-index for ferry and road toll costs increased by 61.4 per during the last month, as a result of the comprehensive change in the tariff system for road tolls in Oslo from July this year. Over the last 12 months the sub-index for ferry and road toll costs has increased by 63.7 per cent.
Increased diesel prices
Rising crude oil prices resulted in a 3.0 per cent increase in the fuel index from June to July this year. From July 2007 to July 2008 this sub-index has increased by 33.1 per cent.
Decline in capital costs
The sub-index for capital decreased by 0.8 per cent last month, mainly due to a reduction in real interests rates. Over the last 12 months this index, which is composed by depreciation and amortization, interest costs and annual fees, has increased by 5.9 per cent.
Increased administration costs
The administration costs increased by 0.3 per cent from June to July. Over the last 12 months this sub-index has increased by 4.1 per cent.
