Lower 12-month rate

After showing rise the last three months the 12-month rate (February 2001 - February 2002) decreased compared with last month. This development is visible both in the total index and the three main groups.

From January to February the total index showed an increase of 1.7 per cent. This period also revealed a 4.2 per cent increase of prices within oil and gas extraction, while manufacturing prices went down 0.4 per cent.

12-month rate for manufacturing down

The 12-month rate for manufacturing went from -3.3 per cent in January to -4.5 per cent in February. Corresponding figures for refined petroleum products was -23.1 per cent and -27.4 per cent. Reaching -10.5 per cent the 12-month rate of pulp, paper and paper products showed a clear negative trend. This development was a result of prices rising between January and February in 2001 while the same period this year show that prices has declined 2.6 per cent. The 12-month rate for food products, beverages and tobacco also show some reduction compared with last month. After showing decline since late 2000, when the 12-month rate was about 20 per cent, the price level of chemicals and chemical products is now 9.4 per cent lower than last year.
