HICP down 0.5 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway decreased by 0.5 per cent from July to August 2012. The prices of airline fares and food contributed most, while the prices for electricity increased.

The HICP for Norway was 112.1 (2005=100) in August 2012, unchanged from August 2011. The zero growth in the last 12 months equates to an increase in the year-to-year growth of 0.2 percentage points from July.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for July 2012 show that the HICP for the EU and EEA was 117.8, while the HICP for the euro area was 115.1. The preliminary year-to-year growth in the HICP for June was 2.5 per cent for the EU and the EEA and 2.4 per cent for the euro area. The year-to-year growth for August 2012 in the euro area is estimated at 2.6 per cent.

Detailed figures for August will be published on Eurostat’s website on 14 September.
