HICP down 0.1 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway decreased by 0.1 per cent from February to March 2012. A fall in the electricity prices was the main contributor to the decline, while increased prices of clothing and footwear pulled the index in the opposite direction.

The HICP for Norway was 114.0 (2005=100) in March 2012 compared to 113.4 in March 2011. The year-to-year growth in March was 0.5 per cent, down 0.5 percentage points from February.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for February 2012 show that the HICP for the EU and EEA was 116.8, while the HICP for the euro area was 114.0. The preliminary year-to-year growth in the HICP for February was 3.0 per cent for the EU and 2.9 per cent for the EEA. In the same period of time, the euro area experienced a 2.7 per cent increase for the HICP. In the euro area, the year-to-year growth for March 2012 is estimated at 2.6 per cent.
