Strong growth in HICP

The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway increased by 1.3 per cent from November to December 2010. The prices of energy goods made the largest contribution to the rise, while the prices of clothing together with food decreased.

The HICP for Norway was 113.3 (2005=100) in December 2010, compared to 110.3 in December 2009. The year-to-year growth was 2.7 per cent in December 2010, up 1.2 percentage points from November.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Preliminary data for November 2010 shows that the HICP for both the EU and the EEA was 112.7, while the HICP for the euro area was 110.6. The year-to-year growth in the HICP in November was 2.3 per cent for both the EEA and the EU, and 1.9 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area, the year-to-year growth for December 2010 is estimated at 2.2 per cent.

Detailed figures for December will be published on Eurostat’s home pages on 14 January.

New weights in HICP in 2011

As from the January index in 2011 (published on 10 February 2011), a new weighting will be applied to the harmonised consumer price index for Norway based on the national accounts' figures for household consumption. Read more in article on new weights in HICP .
