HICP down 0.5 per cent

The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) for Norway decreased by 0.5 per cent from April to May 2010. Prices on electricity accounted for most of the decrease.

The HICP for Norway was 112.0 (2005=100) in May 2010, compared to 109.2 in May 2009. The year-to-year growth was 2.6 per cent in May 2010, down 0.8 percentage points from April.

EU, EEA and the euro area

Provisional data for April 2010 shows that the HICP for both the EU and the EEA was 111.6, while the HICP for the euro area was 109.9. The year-to-year growth in the HICP in April was 2.0 per cent for both the EEA and the EU while it was 1.5 per cent for the euro area. In the euro area, the year-to-year growth for May 2010 was estimated at 1.6 per cent.
