Prices on freight transport up 1.5 per cent

Prices on freight transport by road in Norway increased by 1.5 per cent during the second quarter, relative to the first quarter of 2007. It has been registered a 7.2 percent rise in prices during the period second quarter 2006 to second quarter 2007.

The index shows the price development for the industry as a whole, as well as price developments for the transportation of six different types of freight. The total industry level price rise can be associated to the price rise in mainly two sub categories (sub-indices), namely mixed goods/container goods and frozen or refrigerated goods.

These sub-indices grew by 2.2 and 1.3 percent respectively during second quarter in relation to first quarter 2007. The combined annual price change from second quarter 2006 to second quarter 2007 for transportation of mixed goods/container goods was 9.3 percent. Like wise a 6.6 percent price rise has been registered in the case of frozen or refrigerated goods

The sub-indices show the price development for transportation of the following products: Frozen or refrigerated goods, petroleum products, other liquids or gases in bulk, mixed goods/container goods, dry goods in bulk and other transportation in special vehicle.

The sub-indices are weighted together in the main index using the industry turnover distributed on freight types as weights. The freight type mixed goods/container goods makes up for the largest part of the industry turnover, with almost a 45 per cent share. Other liquids or gases in bulk are the smallest freight type with 2.4 per cent of the total turnover.
