Price growth for freight transport by road

The prices on freight transport by road increased by 1.6 per cent from the third to the fourth quarter of 2006. In 2006 the prices rose by 5.4 per cent.

The index shows the price trend for the industry as a whole, as well as the price trends for the transportation of six different types of freight. In 2006 transportation of mixed goods/container goods experienced the largest growth, a 6.5 per cent rise in prices. Transportation of dry goods in bulk experienced the smallest growth. For this group the prices rose by 1.2 per cent in 2006.

The sub-indices show the price trend for transportation of the following products: Frozen or refrigerated goods, petroleum products, other liquids or gases in bulk, mixed goods/container goods, dry goods in bulk and other transportation in special vehicle.

The sub-indices are weighted together in the main index using the industry turnover distributed on freight types as weights. The freight type mixed goods/container goods makes up for the largest part of the industry turnover, with almost a 45 per cent share. Other liquids or gases in bulk are the smallest freight type with 2.4 per cent of the total turnover.
