Prices of new detached houses flattening out
After a strong growth in prices of new detached houses in the first quarter this year, the prices flattened out in the second quarter. From the first to the second quarter this year, prices increased by 2.0 per cent. Adjusted for seasonal variations, the prices fell by 0.3 per cent the last quarter.
From the second quarter of 2006 to the second quarter of 2007, prices of new detached houses increased by 9.3 per cent. In comparison, the contractors construction cost increased by 8.9 per cent in the same period, according to Statistics Norway’s construction cost index for detached houses of wood.
Prices doubled during the last 10 years
From the second quarter of 1997 to the second quarter of 2007, prices of new detached houses have increased by 102.1 per cent. This is more than twice as much as the contractors construction cost has increased in the corresponding period.
A total of 516 observations have been used in the calculation of the index for the second quarter of 2007.
