Road construction costs up 3.7 per cent

The construction costs of roads rose by 3.7 per cent from the fourth quarter 2004 to the fourth quarter 2005. Material costs increased by 6.1 per cent in the same period.

From the third quarter to the fourth quarter of 2005 the construction costs of roads rose by 1.2 per cent, while the material costs increased by 0.9 per cent in the same period.

The construction costs of open air roads rose by 4.4 per cent from the fourth quarter 2004 to the fourth quarter 2005. The costs of rock tunnels and concrete bridges rose by 3.5 per cent and 2.4 per cent respectively in the same period.

The maintenance costs of roads increased by 0.7 per cent from the third quarter to the fourth quarter of 2005, and are 4.9 per cent higher in the fourth quarter of 2005 than in the fourth quarter of 2004.
