Tax payments are usually high in May and a total sum of NOK 117.1 billion was paid in May 2013. This is NOK 6.7 billion, or 6 per cent, more than in May 2012. Most of the taxes this month were paid through the advance tax arrangement, with a total of NOK 108 billion. Contributions to the National Insurance Scheme account for NOK 45.4 billion of this sum. Tax equalisation contributions to the central government account for NOK 27.4 billion and taxes to municipalities account for NOK 24.6 billion. Ordinary taxes to the central government and taxes to county authorities account for NOK 5 billion each. Taxes through the non-personal taxpaying arrangement totalled NOK 9.2 billion in May. Most of this sum was tax equalisation contributions to the central government.

Total tax payments from January to May this year were also higher than in the corresponding period last year. NOK 434.1 billion was paid in the first five months of this year and this is NOK 26.2 billion more than in the same period of 2012. NOK 286.8 billion of the total sum was paid through the advance tax arrangement and this is an increase of 7 per cent from last year. Payments through the non-personal taxpaying arrangement have also increased due to higher tax payments on petroleum extraction. Excluding oil taxes, payments from non-personal taxpayers decreased by 4.9 per cent.
