More scarification

In 2013, a total of 6 800 hectares of forest land were scarificated; an increase of 1 800 hectares from the previous year.

Hedmark and Oppland were the counties with the highest proportion of scarification. In Hedmark county, a total of 4 100 hectares were scarificated in 2013; an increase of 33 per cent from the year before. In Oppland county, 1 300 hectares were scarificated.

Forest planting

In total, 14 700 hectares were planted in 2013, which is the same level as the year before. A total of 26.3 million forest plants were planted. As much as 44 per cent of all forest planting in Norway was carried out in the county of Hedmark. In Hedmark, a total of 3 800 hectares were planted in 2013; an increase of 9 per cent from the year before. In Oppland county, a total of 2 600 hectares were planted.

More tending of young stands

In total, 26 400 hectares of young forest were tended in 2013, which is 3 300 hectares less than in the previous year.

More invested

In total, NOK 289 million was invested in silviculture in 2013, of which NOK 135 million was invested in forest planting and NOK 99 million in tending. The remainder was invested in scarification, clearing, fertilising and similar work. Government subsidies covered NOK 69 million of the costs.
