Average yields of fodder crops in 2002

The total yield of all meadows for mowing in 2002 was about 2.7 million tonnes, converted by dry matter into hay. This corresponds to a yield of 551 kilos of hay per decare.

The total yield of meadows for mowing in 2002 was 0.2 million tonnes less than in 2001. In 2002 the per decare yield was 551 kilos of hay, against 578 kilos in 2001.

By the first harvesting in 2002, 48 per cent of the harvested area of meadows for mowing was laid into silage, whereas 43 per cent was harvested as round bales. Corresponding figures for the later harvesting were 43 and 52 per cent respectively. The grass from 7 per cent of the first harvesting was dried as hay, while 2 per cent was fed fresh. For later harvesting 2 per cent was harvested as hay, while 4 per cent was fed fresh.

The yield of other crops for green fodder and silage showed a further decline in 2002. This is particularly due to drop in the area of these crops: from 279, 000 decares in 2001 to 205, 000 decares in 2002. Rye grass covered 57 per cent of the area of other fodder crops, and green forage mixtures and grain for green fodder and silage covered 39 per cent. The average decare yield of rye grass was 2,785 kilos per decare, and for green forage mixtures and grain for green fodder 2, 476 kilos.

1.2 million tonnes of grain

The total grain production in 2002 was 1.2 million tonnes. The average decare yield of grain was 364 kilos. For further information about yield of grain and oil seeds, please see http://www.ssb.no/korn_en/ .
