More than NOK 2 billion in public dental health care

The cost level in dental care increased in 2008 and ended at over NOK 2 billion. The dental health care status among 12- and 18-year-olds shows less caries.

The gross expenditure in public dental health care continues to increase. From 2007 to 2008, the gross expenditure increased by 6.6 per cent. The counties used almost NOK 2140 per person to provide public dental health care. This is NOK 40 more than the year before. The total expenditure for the 19 counties was almost NOK 2.1 billion, an increase by NOK 130 millions from 2007.

More foreign dentists

The number of dentists with foreign background has increased by almost 50 per cent in the period 2004-2008. In 2008 there were 993 dentists with foreign background working in public and private dental health care in Norway.

Less average caries

The dental health status among 12- and 18-year-olds shows the same tendency as in the past 25 years: less caries. There are still some differences between the 19 counties, for both 12- and 18-year-olds.
