Fewer beds - man-years increased
At the end of 2006, there were around 13 900 beds at general hospitals, a reduction of 100 compared to 2005. In the same period, man-years increased by 1.5 per cent until 65 100.
There were more than 824 000 discharges after stays in general hospitals and the number of outpatient consultation was approximately 3 500 000. There were almost 544 000 day cases, a growth of 7.7 per cent.

Man-years are the sum of full-time employed and part-time employed (calculated in to full-time employed) by
the end of the year.Overtime is not included. |

From 2002, data from Norwegian Patient Register (NPR) is used. In addition Statistics Norway gathered
information on out-patient consultations in private hospitals for 2002 and 2003, 34 679 and 93 127 consultations respectively. This information was not included in the figures for 2004-2006. |
