Fewer beds - more activity
At the end of 2005, there were almost 14 000 beds at general hospitals. The number decreased from 2004. In the same period, the number of discharges increased and the average length of a hospital stay decreased. The number of daycases in general hospitals rose by 10 per cent, and the number of outpatient consultation was approximately 3 450 000.

From 2002, data from Norwegian Patient Register (NPR) is used. In addtion Statistics Norway gathered
information on out-patient consultations in private hospitals for 2002 and 2003, 34 679 and 93 127 consultations, respectively. This information was not included in the figures for 2004 and 2005. |
