Fewer new buildings

Around 6.9 million square metres of utility floor space have been given building starts hitherto this year. This is almost 270 000 square metres, or 3.7 per cent less than in the corresponding period last year.

A total of almost 22 000 new dwellings were given building starts in January-September. This is 2.5 per cent fewer compared with the first nine months last year.

Building starts in the industrial sector decreased by almost 10 per cent compared with January-September 2012. Holiday properties (cottages), private garages and other non-industrial activity decreased by 1.3 per cent.
