Building activity at same level

Around 6.0 million square metres of utility floor space have been given building starts hitherto this year. This is equal to the same level in the corresponding period last year.

A total of almost 19 000 new dwellings were given building starts in January-August; the same level as last year. More than one in four dwellings were started in Oslo and Akershus counties. The underlying trend has however been pointing downwards since early 2013.

Building starts in the industrial sector increased by almost 2 per cent compared with January-August 2012. Holiday properties (cottages), private garages and other non-industrial activity decreased by 3.5 per cent.
