Small decrease in new dwellings

Preliminary figures show a flattening trend in new buildings in January 2010 compared with January 2009. The number of new dwellings fell by 2.2 per cent in January, while total utility floor space increased by 7.5 per cent.

A total of 2 314 new dwellings were started in January; a decrease of 52 dwellings compared with January 2009.

Increase in industrial sector

A total of 468 400 square metres of utility floor space for industrial buildings were started. This is 28 per cent more compared with the same period in 2009.

Still fewer leisure homes started

The decrease is still large for holiday houses and residential garages. In this category, building starts of 100 400 square metres of utility floor space have been registered; a 21 per cent decrease compared with the corresponding period last year.
