Less new buildings
Building activity, measured in total utility floor space started, fell by 24.3 per cent during the first seven months of 2009 compared with the corresponding period in 2008.
A total of 10 613 dwelling starts were registered during the first seven months of 2009. This is 24.3 per cent fewer dwelling starts compared with the same period in 2008.
Registered utility floor space starts for industrial and public sector buildings decreased by 24.8 per cent in the period January-July 2009 compared with the same period in 2008.
Utility floor space started for holiday houses and residential garages went down by 23.8 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.
