Record high building of new dwellings
Preliminary figures for 2004 show that 29 466 new dwellings where started in Norway in 2004, an increase of 31 per cent from 2003. This is the highest number of new dwelling-starts since 1983.
5 931 new dwellings were started in Oslo in 2004, which represent almost half of the total growth. This is the highest number of new dwellings started in Oslo since Statistics Norway started with building statistics in 1967.
A total of 3.5 million square meters of utility floor space for dwellings were started in 2004 - an increase of 19.9 per cent compared with 2003.
Moderate increase for industrial buildings
Totally 3.9 million square meters utility floor space for other buildings than dwellings were started in 2004. Of this, 2.8 million square meters are floor space for industrial buildings and 1.1 million square meters are floor space for holiday properties and private garages, an increase of 2.7 and 23.4 per cent respectively compared to 2003.
