Stable building of dwellings

After two months with a high level of started dwellings, only 1 290 new dwellings were started in March 2004. In the first quarter of 2004, 5 800 dwellings were started - about the same number as in the two previous years.

700 000 square meters of utility floor space were started for dwelling purposes in the first quarter of 2004. This is a decrease by 5.3 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Less area started in the health sector

During the first three months of 2004 almost 837 000 square meters of utility floor space were started for other purposes than dwellings. Compared with the same period last year this is a 1.6 per cent decrease. For health and social work, 62.0 per cent less utility floor space was started. Building area used for wholesale and retail trade had an increase by 62.7 per cent in the first quarter compared with last year.

Revised figures

In 2001, 2002 and at the beginning of 2003 the recording of non-residential buildings in the municipality of Oslo was imperfect, and previously published figures has been to low. The revised figures for 2001, 2002 and 2003 are now published, and the statistics include all industrial buildings in Oslo.
