Monthly earnings increased by NOK 1 400

Average monthly earnings of all full-time employees in central government maintained hospitals were NOK 27 900 in October 2003. This was an increase of NOK 1 400 or 5.3 per cent from December 2002.

After a thorough examination of the data material for the years 2001, 2002 and 2003 and to some extent collecting new data reports, revised figures for employees in central government maintained hospitals are now published. The statistics include 100 000 employees, and about 55 000 of these are full-time employees with monthly earnings of NOK 29 100. This represents an increase of NOK 1 600 or 5.9 per cent from the previous year. Part-time employees earned on average NOK 25 600 per month, an increase of NOK 900 or 3.8 per cent.

Higher education

Full-time employees in public hospitals, who have completed studies lasting more than 4 years, had monthly earnings of NOK 48 500 per October 2003, up NOK 5 100 or 11.7 per cent from 2002. This group had an increase of about NOK 4 000 or 10.1 per cent from 2001 to 2002.

Doctors received average monthly earnings of NOK 53 000 in October 2003, an increase of NOK 7 000 or 15.3 per cent from 2002. The corresponding increase from 2001 to 2002 was NOK 1 800 or 4 per cent.

Full-time employees with completed studies lasting 4 years or less had average monthly earnings of NOK 26 900 in 2003. This was NOK 900 or 3.7 per cent more than in 2002. This group had an increase of about NOK 2 200 or 9.4 per cent from 2001 to 2002.

The largest part of this group is professional nurses with average monthly earnings of NOK 25 000 per October 2003. This was an increase of NOK 600 or 2.4 per cent from 2002. From 2001 to 2002 the corresponding increase was NOK 2 100 or 9.6 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from all central government maintained hospitals. For 2002 and 2003 the data are collected from the employers federation NAVO.

On 1 January 2002, all county hospitals were placed under central government administration and maintenance. The data for 2001 are collected from the Staff Administration Information System (PAI) of the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities and from the State Central Register of Government Employees.

Monthly earnings include salary according to scale and fixed and variable additional allowances. Payment for overtime work is not included.
