Monthly earnings increased by NOK 1 000

Average monthly earnings for full-time employees in private education were NOK 27 800 per 1 October 2003. This was an increase of NOK 1 000, or 3.5 per cent from 2002.

Employees in private primary schools had monthly earnings of NOK 24 100 per October 2003. This was NOK 700, or 3.2 per cent, more than in 2002.

For full-time employees in private secondary education monthly earnings were NOK 28 500, which was an increase of NOK 800 or 3 per cent. Those employed in higher education received NOK 30 800, an increase of NOK 500 or 1.7 per cent.

Increase in monthly earnings of 2.7 per cent for teaching staff

Teachers had monthly earnings of NOK 28 000, which was up NOK 700, or 2.7 per cent, from 2002. In comparison, clerks had monthly earnings of NOK 22 200. This was an increase of NOK 600 or 2.8 per cent from the previous year.

Teaching staff in private secondary education received NOK 28 900, which was NOK 900 or 3.2 per cent more than in 2002. Teaching staff in higher education had monthly earnings of NOK 31 000, which was an increase of NOK 800 or 2.8 per cent.

Annual earnings increased by 3.9 per cent

The estimated annual earnings are estimated by using information from wage statistics from two years and information from wage negotiations.

Annual earnings include basic paid wages and salaries, variable additional allowances, bonuses and commissions and the like, but do not include payment for overtime work. The figures for 2003 are preliminary until the wage statistics for October 2004 are published.

Full-time employees in private education had annual earnings of NOK 330 800 in 2003, an increase of NOK 12 400 or 3.9 per cent from 2002.

Employees in private secondary education and higher education earned NOK 338 700 and NOK 368 600 respectively. This corresponded to an increase in annual earnings of 3.5 and 2.7 per cent from 2002. In comparison, employees in private primary schools had annual earnings of NOK 286 500, which was an increase of NOK 10 200 or 3.7 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises in private education with 4 072 full-time employees. The data for 2003 do not include private folk high schools. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for the third quarter 2003, the statistics cover 15 800 employees in private education.
