Wages and remuneration up 6.1 per cent

Total paid wages and remuneration amounted to NOK 557 billion in 2001. This is an increase of NOK 32 billion or 6.1 per cent from 2000. In comparison the increase from 1999 to 2000 was NOK 24.6 billion or 4.9 per cent.

2 618 000 persons received wages and remuneration in 2001, which is 14 200 more than in 2000. In manufacturing the increase from 2000 to 2001 in total paid wages and remuneration was NOK 2.9 billion or 3.5 per cent. In comparison the increase from 2000 was NOK 3.4 billion or 4.9 per cent in wholesale and retail trade.

NOK 213 in average paid wages and remuneration

Average paid wages and remuneration for all persons that received paid wages and remuneration were NOK 213 000 in 2001, an increase of NOK 11 000 or 5.5 per cent from 2000. For men the increase was NOK 14 000 or 5.5 per cent from NOK 239 000 in 2000 to NOK 253 000 in 2001. In comparison, women had NOK 170 000 in 2001, an increase of NOK 9 000 or 5.7 per cent from 2000.

Slightly more sick and maternity leave benefits

Total paid benefits for sick and maternity leave amounted to NOK 12.4 billion in 2001. This is an increase of approximately NOK 748 billion or 6.4 per cent from 2000. In comparison the increase from 1999 to 2000 was NOK 1.2 billion or 11.4 per cent.

A total of about 316 900 persons received sick leave or maternity leave benefits in 2001, which is 11 300 more than in 2000. These benefits exclusively cover disbursements through the national social security system, and do not cover benefits paid by government employers or payments to the self- employed. Disbursements of maternity and sick leave benefits to Central or Local government employees are incorporated in the total paid wages and remuneration.

The statistics are based on figures from the register on End of the Year Certificates for the year 2001. This covers enterprises that are obligated by law to report to the register.
