Men working full-time had monthly earnings of NOK 27 200, an increase of NOK 800 or 3 per cent, whereas average monthly earnings for women working full-time amounted to NOK 25 000, an increase NOK 600 or 2.5 per cent.

All employees

About 60 per cent of all employees in municipalities and county municipalities are working part-time.

To be able to compare the earnings of full-time and part-time employees, earnings for employees working part-time are recalculated to the earnings a full-time employee would receive (full-time equivalent). This makes it possible to compare wages and wage growth for all employees.

Average monthly earnings for all employees were NOK 25 100 an increase of NOK 700 or 2.7 per cent.

Part-time employees

Employees working part-time had average monthly earnings of NOK 24 200, an increase of NOK 700 or 2.9 per cent from 2004.

About the statistical basis

The statistics cover information on 298 959 employees in municipalities and county municipalities per 1 December 2005, excluding employees paid by the hour. The statistics are based on data from the Staff Administration Information System (PAI) of the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities. Employees in power production, power supply and teaching personnel in schools are not included in the statistical basis.
