Monthly earnings up NOK 1 200

Full-time municipal and county municipal employees had average monthly earnings of NOK 25 100 per 1 November 2004. This corresponds to an increase of NOK 1 200 or 5.1 per cent from 1 October 2003.

Wages increased with 4.4 per cent for employees in social caring

Every third employee in municipalities and county municipalities are working in social caring. Here the average monthly earnings for full-time employees were NOK 23 700. This constitutes an increase of NOK 1 000 or 4.4 per cent from October 2003.

In municipal health services full-time employees had earnings of NOK 25 600, which was a growth of NOK 900 or 3.7 per cent from 2003.

For full-time employees working in the technical sector monthly earnings were NOK 25 200, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 5.5 per cent, whereas average monthly earnings for full-time employees in central administration were NOK 27 200, an increase of 5 per cent from 2003.

All employees

About 60 per cent of all employees in municipalities and county municipalities are working part-time.

To be able to compare the earnings of full-time and part-time employees, earnings for a part-time employee are recalculated to the earnings a full-time employee would receive (full-time equivalent).

This makes it possible to compare wages and wage growth for all employees.

About 75 per cent of all employees in municipalities are females. Females had average monthly earnings of NOK 23 900, an increase of 5 per cent from 2003, whereas male employees had monthly earnings of NOK 26 100, a growth of 5.3 per in the same period. This represents a difference of less than 9 per cent in the wages for males and females.

About the statistical basis

The statistics cover 293 628 employees in municipalities and county municipalities per 1 November 2004, excluding employees paid by the hour. The statistics are based on data from the Staff Administration Information System (PAI) of the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities. Employees in power production, power supply and teaching personnel in schools are not included in the statistical basis. Please see Employees in publicly maintained schools
