Monthly earnings increased by NOK 1 300

Full-time municipal and county municipal employees had average monthly earnings of NOK 23 200 per 1 November 2002. This corresponds to an increase of NOK 1 300 or 6.1 per cent from the same time the previous year.

60 per cent of all full-time employees in municipalities are females with average monthly earnings of NOK 22 600. By comparison male employees had monthly earnings of NOK 24 400. Among female employees 40 per cent have a tertial education up to 4 years whereas 29 per cent of the male employees have an education on this level. Average monthly earnings for these groups were NOK 24 600 and 26 800, respectively.

Educational groups

About one half of all full-time municipal and county municipal employees have no education beyond upper secondary level. Here average monthly earnings were NOK 21 400 per November 2002, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 6.4 per cent from the previous year.

One third of all full-time employees have a tertial education up to 4 years. Monthly earnings were in average NOK 25 200 for this group, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 6 per cent from 2001.

Relatively few, i.e. 6 per cent, of the employees, have a tertial education of more than 4 years. Here average monthly earnings were NOK 30 400, an increase of NOK 1 500 or 5.2 per cent from November 2001.

About the statistical basis

As from November 2002 employees in hospitals are no longer included in the statistics. Employees in power production, power supply and teaching personnel in schools are not included in the statistical basis.

The wage settlement in the municipal sector in the spring of 2002 provided an annual increase of NOK 6 000 from 1 May 2002 for each wage scale grade. A total of 0.5 per cent was set aside for local negotiations.

In addition some groups of unskilled and skilled workers and some groups with tertial education were given an increase in the minimum wages varying from NOK 15 000 to NOK 40 000 annually and with an additional raise by 10 years seniority in the occupation.
