Monthly earnings up 3.7 per cent in ICT

Full-time employees in the ICT sector had average monthly earnings of NOK 38 100 per third quarter 2005. This was an increase of NOK 1 400 or 3.7 per cent from 2004.

One out of four full-time employees in the ICT sector are females. Monthly earnings for females amounted to NOK 33 000 in 2005, while males had monthly earnings of NOK 39 600. This corresponds to an increase of 5.6 per cent and 3.2 per cent respectively.

The ICT sector consists of ICT-related industries from the four sections manufacturing, trade, communications and business activities.

Occupational groups

Professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 40 500 in 2005, an increase of NOK 1 300 or 3.3 per cent from 2004. This occupational group consists of computer systems designers and computer programmers, electronics and telecommunications engineers and economists. Technicians and associate professionals had monthly earnings of NOK 35 500, an increase of NOK 1 000 or 2.9 per cent. About two out of three full-time employees in ICT are professional or associate professionals.

Senior officials and managers had monthly earnings of NOK 55 800, an increase of NOK 2 300 or 4.4 per cent. Clerks had, in comparison, monthly earnings of NOK 27 400. This was an increase of NOK 1 400 or 5.3 per cent.

Educational groups

Full-time employees with tertial education, four years or less, had monthly earnings of NOK 40 600 in 2005. This corresponds to an increase of NOK 1 200 or 3.1 from 2004. Employees with tertial education, four years or more, had monthly earnings of NOK 46 900, an increase of NOK 1 400 or 3.1 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on a sample of enterprises with a total of 35 584 full-time employees per third quarter 2005.

The statistics for the ICT sector are based on already existing data from the sections mentioned above and are not collected separately.
