Monthly earnings up NOK 1 000

Full-time employees in real estate and business activities had average monthly earnings of NOK 34 200 per 1 September 2004. This was an increase of NOK 1 000 or 3.0 per cent from 2003.

Real estate and business activities include real estate activities, renting activities, computer activities,
research, and other business activities. Other business activities include legal activities, architectural and engineering activities, advertising, security activities and industrial cleaning.

3.0 per cent increase in real estate activities

Real estate activities include real estate activities with own property and letting of own property.

For full-time employees average monthly earnings were NOK 31 900, an increase of NOK 900 or 3 per cent from 2003.

5.5 per cent increase in renting activities

Renting covers renting of machinery and equipment without operator and renting of personal and household goods. Average monthly earnings for full-time employees were NOK 28 400, an increase of NOK 1 500 or 5.5 per cent from the previous year.

1.7 per cent increase in computer activities

Computer activities include hardware consultancy, software consultancy and supply, data processing and maintenance and repair of office, accounting and computing machinery. Full-time employees had monthly earnings of NOK 38 300, which corresponded to an increase of NOK 600 or 1.7 per cent.

3.1 per cent increase in research

Research includes research and experimental development in natural sciences and engineering and in social sciences and humanities. For full-time employees monthly earnings were NOK 36 500, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 3.1 per cent from 2003.

2.5 per cent increase in other business activities

Average monthly earnings for full-time employees were NOK 33 200, an increase of NOK 800 or 2.5 per cent from September 2003. Employees in legal activities had average monthly earnings of NOK 35 600, an increase of NOK 1 100 or 3.1 per cent. Employees in architectural and engineering activities earned NOK 38 400 and employees in advertising earned NOK 37 100 on the average. This corresponded to an increase of 4.1 and 2.4 per cent, respectively, from the previous year.

Annual earnings

Estimated annual earnings are based on reported wage information per 1 September each year and include basic paid salary, variable additional allowances as well as bonuses and commissions, etc., but do not include payment for overtime work. For the calculation, information from two years of wage statistics are used as well as information from the wage negotiations. The figures for estimated annual earnings for the current year are preliminary until wage statistics for the next year have been established.

Average annual earnings for all full-time employees in real estate and business activities were NOK 407 400 in 2004, an increase of NOK 13 900 or 3.5 per cent from 2003. Annual earnings were NOK 335 800 for employees in renting while full-time employees in computer activities had annual earnings of NOK 457 100. In other business activities average annual earnings were NOK 395 700.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises in the section which cover a total of 68 251 full-time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for 3rd quarter 2004, the statistics cover about 210 300 wage earners employed in real estate and business activities.
