Annual earnings increased by 4.8 per cent

The estimated average annual earnings for full-time employees in real estate and business activities were NOK 393 100 in 2003. This is an increase of NOK 17 900 or 4.8 per cent from 2003.

The average annual earnings are estimated by information from wage statistics from at least two years as well as the quarterly wage index. The quarterly wage index is used to distribute the increase in wages through the year. The annual earnings measure the average earnings for a calendar year. The estimated annual earnings for the current year are preliminary until wage statistics for the next year have been established.

Full time employees in real estate had average annual earnings of NOK 367 100, which is equivalent to a growth of NOK 19 100 or 5.5 per cent from 2002. In comparison, employees in computer activities had average annual earnings of NOK 449 400, an increase of NOK 10 700 or 2.4 per cent. Employees in other business activities had average annual earnings of NOK 383 200, a growth of NOK 14 800 or 4.0 per cent from the previous year.

Average monthly earnings

The average monthly earnings for all full-time employees in real estate and business activities were NOK 33 200, which was an increase of NOK 1 200 or 3.7 per cent from the previous year. The average for employees in real estate was NOK 31 000, which was an increase of NOK 1 200 or 4.1 per cent. Employees in renting of machinery also increased their earnings and had average monthly earnings of NOK 26 900. This was an increase of NOK 1 200 or 4.6 per cent. In comparison, employees in computer activities had an average of NOK 37 600, a growth of NOK 500 or 1.3 per cent. Owing to the fact that the incomes in computer activities have decreased, some groups of employees have agreed on lowered monthly earnings. For employees in research, the average monthly earnings were NOK 35 400. This constitutes an increase of NOK 1300 or 3.8 per cent.

About the statistical basis

The statistics are based on information from a sample of enterprises that cover a total of 58 404 full- time employees. According to preliminary figures from the National Accounts for 3r d quarter 2003, the statistics cover around 208 700 wage earners employed in real estate and business activities.

Total monthly earnings are the main term in Statistics Norway's wage statistics. Total monthly earnings cover basic paid salaries, variable additional allowances and bonuses, commissions and the like. Payment for overtime work is not included in total monthly earnings.
