Large decrease in turnover for water transport

In 2009 the local-kind-of-activity units (KAUs) in water transport had a turnover of NOK 111.6 billion compared to NOK 130.5 billion in 2008; a decrease of 14.5 per cent. Employment also fell by 3.2 per cent in the same period.

After many years of larger increases in turnover, the decrease came in the industry group of sea and coastal freight transport. The industry sub-class freight ocean transport constitutes about 75 per cent of the turnover in the industry group, and represents most of the decrease in turnover for sea and coastal freight transport.

The local KAUs in the industry group sea and coastal passenger transport had a turnover of NOK 12.2 billion in 2009; an increase of 5.2 per cent compared to 2008. There were 9 468 employees here in 2009, compared to10 659 employees in 2008; a reduction of 11.2 per cent.

Reduced value added in land transport

The total number of persons employed in 16 841 KAUs was 67 891. Total value added was NOK 31.5 billion in 2009; 2.5 per cent less than the previous year. The operating result was NOK 6 billion for 2009; compared with NOK 7.0 billion the previous year. Turnover was NOK 64.5 billion in 2009, compared with NOK 67 billion in 2009; 3.7 per cent less than the previous year.

Warehousing and support activities for transportation

The operating result was NOK 76.6 billion in 2009, down from NOK 81.6 billion in 2008. There were 29 042 employed in 2009, compared with 29 214 in 2008.

Postal and courier activities

For the industry sub-class postal and courier activities, 1 782 fewer were employed in 2009 than 2008; 23 513 and 25 295 respectively.

Large increase in gross investments for water transport

In 2009, the gross investments for the local KAUs in water transport constitute about NOK 24 billion, compared to NOK 8 billion in 2008. The largest investments found place in the industry sub-class offshore and other supply services on sea.
