10 965 new enterprises

10 965 new enterprises were registered during the 4th quarter of 2003. In total 41 979 new enterprises were registered last year, which is 146 fewer than in 2002. These figures include all enterprises except public administration, agriculture, forestry and fishing.

Statistics from the Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises of Statistics Norway substantiate this development.

More new enterprises than in third quarter

The number of new enterprises is higher than in the 3r d quarter of 2003, and also slightly higher than in the 4t h quarter of 2002. About 92 per cent of the new enterprises were new established enterprises. This means that the enterprise is not registered to take over an existing establishment. The share of new established enterprises of the total number of new enterprises has been 91-94 per cent in 2003.
