Figure 1. Newly established enterprises by legal form and year

The number of newly-established private limited liability companies decreased by 3.4 per cent from 2012 to 2013, while the number of sole proprietorships increased by 5.2 per cent. Almost 96 per cent of all newly-established enterprises were private limited liability companies or sole proprietorships.

The largest growth in the number of newly-established enterprises from 2012 to 2013 was found within Education (9. 1 per cent), Personal service activities (7.1 per cent) and Health and social work activities (6.2 per cent). In the same period, the number of newly-established enterprises within construction fell by 4.2 per cent.

The variation in the number of newly-established enterprises in the period 2001-2012 can mainly be attributed to the variation in newly-established limited liability companies (figure 1). The increase from 2012 to 2013 is mainly explained by the growth in sole proprietorships.

Enterprises as of 1 January

The number of enterprises as of 1 January increased by 4.3 per cent from 2012 to 2013. For 1 January 2014, the preliminary figure shows no significant change from 2012. (The final figure will be available in 2015.)

The figures include all enterprises except enterprises involved in agriculture, forestry, fishing or public administration. The figures for new enterprises in 2013 have been updated compared to the quarterly statistics on new enterprises.
