More bankruptcies

In the first quarter of 2017, the number of bankruptcies was 1 254, which is an increase of 8 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2016, according to the statistics Bankruptcies. The largest decrease in percentage terms was in the counties of Nord-Trøndelag, Finnmark and Sør-Trøndelag.

The increase in those three counties was 55, 44 and 36 per cent respectively. The largest rise in absolute figures was in the counties of Rogaland, Sør-Trøndelag and Akershus, with 22, 21 and 15 per cent more bankruptcies respectively.

In seven counties, the number of bankruptcies went down. The largest drop in both percentage terms and absolute figures was in the county of Aust-Agder, with 35 per cent, or 12 fewer bankruptcies.

Three out of four bankruptcies, a total of 935, related to enterprises (except sole proprietorships). Twenty-six per cent of these enterprises were in construction, and 23 per cent were in wholesale and retail trade. The remaining 319 bankruptcies related to sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies. Forty per cent of these were in construction.
