Retail trade in development

Retail trade in Norway had a growth of NOK 2.6 billion from September and October 2010 to September and October last year; an increase of 3.9 per cent.

By comparison, the Index of retail sales showed an increase of 3.4 per cent during the same period. In total, retail stores had a turnover of almost NOK 68 billion in September and October last year. The greatest growth was seen in petrol stations, which had a turnover of NOK 8 billion; an increase of 8 per cent, or NOK 600 million more than the same period the year before. The growth is mainly due to the price increase caused by the slight decrease in volume.

During the first 10 months of 2011, the retail trade had a growth of NOK 11 billion; an increase well above 3 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year.

Trade and repair of motor vehicles

The total of sales and repair of motor vehicles was NOK 34 billion in September and October 2011; a growth of 8 per cent from the same period the year before. During the first 10 months last year, the total of sales and repair of motor vehicles was NOK 157 billion, or 8 per cent up compared to the same period in 2010.

Wholesale of nearly NOK 150 billion

The wholesale stores had an increase of NOK 12 billion, or 9 per cent in September and October 2011 compared to the same period in 2010. The total turnover in wholesale was NOK 146 billion. During the first 10 months of 2011, the total turnover in wholesale was NOK 669 billion; a growth of almost 10 per cent compared to the same period in 2010.

The figures do not include value added tax.
